You probably weren't meaning me (with your concerns) but the fires are east of Austin, I live west about 25 nm.

The psychologist that works at my wife's practice was evacuated from his weekend cabin in Bastrop. Haven't heard whether he lost it or not. Bastrop is an interesting place from a forestry point of view... it consists of a mostly stranded remnant of pine forest similar to East Texas. Hopefully they haven't lost too much of this precious forest. The TPWD has worked very hard maintaining it and the species within it.

One of our club members, Ken Peck, lives in the area where the fires are/have been burning. Tried to reach him on his cell phone but no luck. Hope and pray he is OK.

Hi, I had dinner tonight with Ken Peck, he is in Ohio for work. I ask him about the fires, and he stated that his daughter told him that members of the fire crew reported that the fire reached his back property line. Ken is fine and it sounds like his house is also, but it was close.

We've been lucky here in the hill country 70 miles west of Austin. There have been a few small fires but nothing serious. The Forest Service is in town with two Air Tractor water bombers but they haven't had any really bad call-outs so far. We all have our fingers crossed, it is tinder box dry with no relief in sight.
