An old ragwing rides again!

Post by N2520V »

After 30 years of languishing damaged in a barn, and most recently my shop, N2520V passed her first annual inspection since 1978 yesterday. She was listed as destroyed after a windstorm flipped her over in October of 78. After just over two years of really hard, but rewarding work, she's finally ready to take to the sky again. Another proud old plane saved from the scrap heap. I just wanted to thank everyone in the association, especially those who frequent this forum, for all their help, opinions, advice, part sources, patience, etc. Whenever I got stumped with a problem, you guys always had the answer.

I certainly appreciate all the help. :D

I'm getting the before and after pictures together, I'll post when I do. In looking at them myself, I'd forgotten just how pathetic 20V looked a couple years ago.

Thanks again.

Yeeee--hhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Congratulations!

Dustin, when you say it was "listed as destroyed".... do you mean it was written off? (the FAA registration?)

If so, what did you have to accomplish in order for the FAA to re-issue an Airworthiness Certificate? Did you have to accomplish a conformity inspection? Or did they accept only an annual inspection?

In the paperwork we received when we bought the aircraft, there were several letters from the FAA after the accident. The first was a response to a request from the owner to release the N# as the aircraft was reported "destroyed." The second was a letter responding to the new owner re-instating the N# since the new owner intended to fix the airplane. In talking to my IA and our local FSDO, they agreed an annual inspection was sufficient.

We did manage to generate an impressive pile of 337's along the way though. 8O
