850-6 4ply aero classics

Post by Worm Jenkins »

I bought the 8.50-6 4 ply for the 170 and I am familiar with the ACO letter to Altee dodge ,it says a 337 and weight and Bal entry , are they sayin the letter constitutes approved data and does not need field approval or is it just acceptable and still needs to be bought off with field stamp ?

The letter is the basis for your IA to sign off the 337, and you need a current W&B with the new tires. That is what I did several years ago. There are other threads on here discussing the basis for the letter.

Yes I understand that I am an I/A but that letter seems to be acceptable not approved data and that was the question on the interpretation of it ,

I perused the atlee dodge letter And the previous letter that the aco referred to and the anchorage fsdo agreed this item requires field approval and the letter is not approved data but substantiates acceptable data .

The ghost of bluElder appeared in a dream last night and asked “Isn’t it a minor alteration to take a wire-wheel and grind the tire-size legend off the sidewalls?”

Here is the response from aco anchorage

Subject: RE: Tires

Hi Mark,

The letter that sent to F. Atlee Dodge Aircraft Services reiterated that the policy that was stated in the 1961 Flight Standards letter had not been rescinded and the policy could be used for modern field approvals. Also at the time Flight Standards was working on an advisory circular that also said the same thing. It is not my call on what constitutes “approved” data for a 337. However, the 1961 Flight Standards Letter is reiterated in paragraph 2 of my letter. There is no technical concern with what is identified in Paragraph 2. So did I do a good enough job avoiding the question but still give you enough to work with? If not please ask more we have a lot of experience with tire changes like this and I am happy to help you find a good solution.
