Re: Cleaning up landing gear- Help please
I'm not sure what the proper terminology is, but Cessna either strongly discourages or prohibits use of chemical strippers on gear legs. The chemical reacts with the steel to create hydrogen embrittlement (search for that term among the forum and you'll find out a bit more). If you want to do the jo...

Re: Pilots seat secondary stop
his feeling was act now because if the FAA makes it an AD Cessna may stop giving them away and start charging. He also cautioned not to be in a hurry as Cessna is months behind on delivery. DEM Cessna has been sued so many times for the seat track issues, I really can't believe they would charge mu...

Re: Pilots seat secondary stop
I procrastinated getting the Cessna secondary seat stop solution. It looks hooky. A good question for a person considering this mod and thinking it looks hokey or silly to ask is, "Will this look as hokey or silly as a bent up airplane (or worse)?" My airplane was used as the kit-proof (t...

Re: Oil for C-145
It's in the C145/O300 TCDS E-253 page 2. NOTE 1. Maximum permissible cylinder head, barrel and oil inlet temperatures, 525°F, 290°F, and 225°F, respectively. Maximum oil inlet temperature limit is 240°F, when using Spec. MHS-24 oil SAE No. 50 above 40°F ambient and SAE No. 30 or 10W30 below 40°F am...

Re: The DOOR STEWARD
I elected to keep the original door catch brackets installed on mine when I installed the door stewards. Main reason was to help prevent damage should a strong gust of wind catch the open door and try to rip it off.

Re: C170 Cowl Door Pop open in Flight?
.....Makes the Dip Davis latch STC look pretty good... But the Davis are so dam ugly in my opinion. The style of the 170 begs for a latch exactly like it has not the more modern clean looking Davis solution which looks like it should be on a sweep back tail 172 with a nose gear. Actually,...

For those who have not had this...experience...here's what it looks like. Cowl Flight 1.jpg Cowl Landed.jpg Mantra repeated to myself throughout the approach to landing: "Fly the airplane" (so as not to end up further damaged as Bruce suggested above) Latch Fwd.jpg Latch rear.jpg Note BOTH...

Re: C170 Cowl Door Pop open in Flight?
A friend of mine had the door on the R/H side of his late B model open up in flight. He fabricated a new one using like material from the one previously installed. Guess what happened on his test flight? So, he contacted some other people in the know and found that the original drawings indicated a ...

Re: ADS-B
It's not required until 2020 which is about 7 or 8 iPhone versions from now. And that's not counting the unknown number of delays they will add to the deadline. I wouldn't spend a penny on ADSB until the year before it's absolutely necessary as the tech will only get cheaper and cheaper. ^^^ This, ...

Re: delco starter 1109656
Can't recall if it was because of this thread or not, but I found that the arm and bolt on my starter moved considerably. I first noticed that I could not unscrew the bolt as one normally would, i.e. I had to twist and pull rather than just twist counterclockwise. Once it was removed, I noted that t...
