Fred Lagno holds the STC for the 60 amp alternator. He sent me the wiring digram and installation instructions before I bought the STC. He was very helpful and the STC was $85.00 (several years ago). I did the installation in my 120 and was very happy with the results. This letter is from Fred from a previous post......

ALTERNATOR INSTALLATION INFO, ALL AIRCRAFT

Our installation utilizes a Ford/Cessna 60 amp alternator that bolts directly onto the C-85, C-90, O-200 and O-300 engines. The installation is a standard alternator circuit providing a nominal 14 volts for aircraft with 12 volt battery systems.

The following parts would be required:

Alternator
Voltage regulator
60 amp ammeter
Voltmeter (panel-mounted). Our STC lists a combination gauge that allows a constant ammeter/voltmeter readout. (Not required for Cessna 120/140/140A).
circuit breakers
noise filter
other minor parts for alternator drive and blast tube assembly

We provide the Supplemental Type Certificate, full instructions and schematics, and a list of suppliers for parts. We do not provide parts for Aircoupe or Cessna 170. However, we do stock the VR600A voltage regulator for the Cessna 120/140/140A. As of this date we are the only supplier for that part. A rough estimate of parts cost is $800 to $1000.

Aircoupe and Cessna 170 owners: to order, please send a check or money order for $85.00 and include aircraft type, registration number and serial number.

Cessna 120/140/140A owners: to order, please send a check or money order for $204.00. This cost covers STC, voltage regulator, and shipping. In addition, I will need your aircraft type, registration number and serial number.

I am certain that you will be pleased with the dependability and performance of this installation. It is one that has been used for many years, and continues to be quite popular in small aircraft. If you have any further questions, please call us.

Sincerely,
Fred Lagno

Joe, if I am not mistaken there is a Cessna kit SK-172-?? that allows you to convert to an alternator without STC or anything other than 337 and log entry using this kit. It used the electrical drawing for the 172 after Cessna started using the 60 amp Atl. Can be found in the 62 and prior book --drawings in the back of the book. I have the stuff at home and will be more than happy to sent you copies but I am sure someone will have them readily avaliable on this forum. BRUCE??? GA HORN? You have to change some wires and install a 50 amp breaker and have some wires (shielded). No big deal I bought some shielding and pull the nornal wire thru it. The diagram has all the sizes necessary. Have to change the regulator. iI is a normal ford regulator only certified for aircraft if you get the drift. Ron

As you said, it's in the service manual. I also have a copy a member sent me some time ago but it's too large to scan and post. I could copy it for the costs and mail it, but again....look in the service manual.

Thanks Ron and Bruce, I don't have the service manual at my fingertips but may know someone here that does. I'll check it out.

It's not in the Service Manual...it's in the Parts Manual. I'll try to upload a copy of the diagram.
Here's a link to a free dnload of the 62-73 IPC.

I regret to say that I was wrong. The IPC for aircraft after alternator installations refers to an "Electrical Systems Manual" and does not contain the alternator wiring diagram. I'm not at home (I'm out of town) and will continue to look for a diagram for you to post.
