Just a piece of aluminum sheet painted black. Has hand hold recesses in it.

And...don't know about all models, but my "53" also has outlet for windshield defroster.

... No threads specific to the "dash" but many pictures through out that are of instrument panels. Some might but most don't focus on the "dash" cause there's nothing really to focus on.

I agree, there are a zillion pictures of instrument panels but pictures which show the glareshield well enough to see the color are as rare as hen's teeth. Bruce, you seem to have changed your mind as to the glareshield color -- instrument panel color then black. I've assumed it should be Serge Blue for my '52 but the blueprint doesn't show this.

(My guess is that the blueprint is only showing exterior colors. It seems logical though that Cessna would have painted the glareshield, instrument panel and exterior in the same color when the fuselage was just a shell, i.e. prior to putting the windshield, instruments, and interior in.) Flat black would be the color of choice to minimize glare. But was that the color from the factory?

Gary, I retract my "painted black" statement. I'd really on what I said when I was younger and had more brain cells firing. :?

Every glareshield (original) I’ve seen has been the base interior color (Trooper Tan, New Lima Tan, etc.)

Thanks Ryan,
The photo on the front of the April 1952 issue of Flying magazine appears to collaborate this.

Here's a picture of a ‘55 170B. Black and white but the glareshield is clearly a different shade than the boot cowl.

This slide photo of my wife's grandfather's '52 C-170b shows what appears to be a brown color on the glareshield.

This last photo shows what appears to be original chocolate brown paint found on the assist handles when bead blasting non-original blue paint off. My glareshield/boot cowl has been replaced so I have no idea if the assist handles are original to this ‘52 170B.

I'd like to remove it and make it look original
I see what looks like a thin piece of carpet
is there a good thread about doing this

I was just up to Oshkosh and forgot to take
pictures of all the dashes of the 170s up there

thanks

Dave-
My 1951 A model still has the original paint on the glare shield. It is the same color as the original lower instrument panel covers in the picture. I think George Horn called it "French Silver" if I recall correctly. The picture was taken outside on an overcast day but the color looks the same in the picture as the pieces, to me.

My 170 also had red trim from the factory.

The top of the instrument panel which is what I call the "glare shield" and you are calling the "dash" is the part of the boot cowl inside of the windshield.

Yep, exactly the same as mine! The top of the glare shield would have been the same color as the floating panel, lower panel covers, and lower control yoke cover under the panel.

When I restored mine, I had the top of the glare shield and lower yoke cover left in the original color.

Left off a gas cap the other day on a short flight
the gas emptied out of the wing tank that had the gas cap on!
why is this?

As gas is sucked out of the open tank, it is replaced by gas from the other tank which then looks like the tank that lost the fuel.

....via the overhead vent line.

could really smell the gas in the cabin as well
is this due to the vent as well?

also, my exhaust gauge doesn't work
my radio man, Spencer Avionics in Spencer Iowa,
says its probably the sensor in the exhaust.

where is this located?
and where does one purchase a new one?

thanks
dave

Do you know who makes your EGT gauge ?
