I just had an O-360 shipped from Lycon in Northern California to Alaska. The best rate was with Roadway Express. It was $500 including insurance for $20,000. Hope that helps.

yes, thanks Shawn, that does help. Looking forward to seeing your (TCM) conversion when you get it done!

I still need dimensions and a weight to get quotes - anyone?

Paul,
I look up a waybill for shipping 2 crates to SLT from Chicago. One crate held the prop and the other Cont. O-300 firewall forward. There was no price and no demensions on the waybill but there was a weight of 450 lbs.
Hope this helps.

I found that the cheapest rate, by far, for shipping an engine from Calif. to the Boston area was Yellow Freight "Exact Express". This apparently is a system of "Space Available" air freight. I did NOT specify a delivery date, allowing them ample time, and it was shipped by air freight, was delivered much quicker than truck freight time, and was VERY much cheaper, about $200.00 less than the truck rate.
I discovered this system when I had an engine, a Cont. IO-360, shipped to me from Florida to California. It was way less than straight truck rates.

derf62,
look at a map. Shawn paid $500 to ship it 3600 road miles (14 ¢/mi.). You paid $175 for 700 mi. (24 ¢/mi.). Airfreight bills on O-470/520's from mid-America to Anchorage are over $2000.

BL,
I didn't think they included Alaska but their website http://www.myyellow.com says they do, although it's treated differently. I'll bet they sub out the Seattle - Anchorage leg to one of the many outfits that's specialize in it. I didn't see any mention of a Space A rate in my brief tour of the site, but I'll follow up when time permits. Thanks for the tip.
