installation of glider tow hook on 170a

Post by craigmussman »

I am installing a tow hook on 170a and will need a field approval.Does anyone have any data on design limits or load limits from a previously installed tow hitch?Possibly a copy of a 337 from another installation or any other data?

Thanks

Remember that the MX Library lists those 337's etc. that TIC170A has copies of. Included is "Tow Hitch Release handle for 170 A".

AC 43.13-2A, Chg1 Chapter 8 Glider and Banner Tow-Hitch Instllations tells you how to do it and would be the bases of approval for the 337.

Glider tow hook

Post by Dooley »

I got a field approval for a tow hook on my Amodel a few years ago. The 337 from Hq and of course 43-13 were the source documents. Luckily I have a friend who is a DAR (Designated Airworthiness Representative?) who helped with the field approval. As you may know all FSDO's are not created equally. We pull a SGS 1-26 down here in Texas with my 0360 powered Cessna 170A, it works fine. Good luck
