Generator internal short

Post by JMACFLY »

During runup after recent engine repair, the amp meter showed an excessive charge as the rpm increased. We shut down the engine and disconnected the field wire from the generator and ran it again. It still showed an excessive charge. The book says that the generator has an internal short in the field windings. This is the first time that we have run across such a failure mode. Changing the regulator didn't fix the problem.
Where do you get your 35 amp generators rebuilt? This one was rebuilt in 1998 by Modified Aircraft Accessories Inc. of Brooks, KY
