Leading edge wing skin thickness on a 57' 172 nose dragger?

Post by Matthew_bailey »

I am trying to determin the wing skin thickness on the leading edge wing skin on my 1957 172. The wing skin section in question is the small section P/N 0523003-57 STA 190 to 208. The skin is about 20" long and covers the LE from the wing tip rib to one rib in from the wing tip. This is the right hand wing skin. When I measue the skin it reads like its .020" material but I was looking at another set of wings in my shop and the unpainted surface says .025".

What I am trying to ask is...

Is the leading edge skin on the wing of a 57 172 nose dragger .020" or .025"?

Thanks for letting me bother you guys!

Hi Matt,

As I remember it from doing several wings. From the Strut attach outboard Originally skin thickness is .020. inboard of that is originally .025. I just checked with a fellow who worked at Williams in Indiana and he confirmed those dimensions. hope this helps. Brian
