Motor mount removal

Post by AWilson »

The lord mounts (I guess that’s what you call them) used on my 0-300 all have cracks in the rubber. Mechanic looked very closely and said he’s not sure if they need to be replaced or not. His concern is replacements may again crack within months.

What’s the best way to determine if they need to be replaced?

Also, he said it looks like a big job and that the engine may need to be moved forward.
But in trying to learn here on the forum I’m thinking you just unbolt the cast leg from the engine and slide them out. Can I get a general procedure for this?

Lots of info. on this subject buried in the vault, the search engine is your friend. Cracks in the rubber are not a problem as they are likely just surface cracks. Replacing them when the engine is overhauled makes the most sense. Lifting the engine out of the mount is the way to replace them if indeed a isolator has failed ( I’ve never seen one that has).

That reference was perfect, thanks. I did a search and it came up with about 40 plus matches. I checked them out but did not get much out of it. Maybe I searched using the wrong words.
When you say “The vault” is that a specific place on the forum?
