I have a 1954 B and I am looking to find a serviceable Co-pilot's side upper door hinge. If any body is parting out their A/C and has one please let me know. Cessna has quit producing them and Univair want $500+ for a new one. please email Flyrmurphy@sbcglobal.net if anyone knows where I can find one. Thanks.

What is wrong with yours? The hinge pin fingers broken or worn? They can be repaired if you or someone you know can braze. We have a discussion about the technique someplace here at the forum.

Fwd piece or aft piece, or both? Fwd piece is simple to replace in comparison to the aft upper hinge segment. Jim Wildharber had a few fwd upper hinges made, he may have some still available but maybe a long shot. I thought McFarland was now making them and there’s a discussion recent amongst members as to whether you have a straight hinge or one with a slight bend .
Bruce is correct the simple way to fix the hinge is a simple weld and file.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, it is the hinge pin bottom finger (Barrel) on the door portion that has rusted off. I will look for the earlier discussion to see if that is a fix. Thanks again.

It’s an easy repair with a tig welder.

7mm carbon steel brake line is the right size for the pin and hinge. I chose to repair the broken short segment of the hinge with an extended segment to hopefully strengthen the hinge and lengthen the time to the next repair.

This repair replaced both worn hinge segments with a single length of 7mm brake line tubing, then the segments were cut out to match the mating hinge half.

Be aware if brazing is used for the hinge repair it will make it very difficult if a future repair is to be welded.

Jim,
The screw actually holds Richard's Cup Holder on the inside of the Door.

Thanks Jim
That hinge is actually on my 1958 C180. Same hinge as the 170 except Cessna added streamlines over the hinges on the 180 held on with two screws. It became evident when I took off the streamline what a shoddy paint job I got in 1991. The hinge is painted now.
