I have a friend who is looking for copies of these two STCs.

Looked through MTX Library and didn’t see them.

Does anyone have a copy they would share?

Thank you!

The Soaring Society of America owns several of the STCs for tow hook installation on Cessnas now. Contact Denise Layton at the SSA’s office 575-392-1177 to inquire if they own these these two particular STC’s.

If you get stuck, there may be a way to get an Field Approval. Yes I know its difficult but not necessarily impossible when a properly documented 337 with appropriate references to FAA AC 43.13-2B CHAPTER 8. GLIDER AND BANNER TOW-HITCH INSTALLATIONS dtd 03\03\08.p and....

804. FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES.

a. Methods. Accomplish the installation of tow hitches using manufacturer’s data or that data previously approved by a representative of the Administrator, when available, such as a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) or a Field Approval.

If you can’t find the STCs noted above, I can provide a pretty well documented 337 to copy for a 170.

Richard,
Looks like I was typing at the same time as Pete.

My guess is that STC SA268CE is/was owned by the same Javelin Aircraft Company that has the STC for the aux tank. I’ll PM you the last email address I have from years ago for David Blanton, the son of the Blanton that established the Javelin Aircraft Company.

SA34CE is owned by the Soaring Society of American (sic). Have you tried contacting
them about getting a copy of the STC?

Pacific Aerial Tow Hooks has STC SA220SO which includes the C-170 in its AML.

Finally this banner sign company says they have STC paperwork available.

The guy looking for the STCs is on the SSA BOD. David Blanton donated his STC to SSA before he passed. Unfortunately the SSA doesn't have the complete paperwork or the staffing to bring this all together right now, hence the request. SSA has been in contact with David's family, and they are looking for further documentation- we'll see if anything turns up.

In the mean time, if anyone has complete copies of either STC, it would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it would be wishful thinking to assume the FAA ACO's phone number listed on the respective STC in the FAA database could be of any assistance?

He said he's been in contact with the NY ACO and "they're looking."

This doesn't help with paperwork, but is a video from Cessna.

I just went through this with the Bartone Pipe Exhaust STC. Start with the last known ACO that was assigned to the STC. and ask them to check the document ledger for documents. Since the SSA is the holder of the STC call the Fort Worth ACO. The entire data package should have been transferred to them for storage. They will be the most recent FAA contact and should shorten up the search. If you need help private message me. I know a few people at the SSA and I am also becoming to friendly with numerous ACO's.
