The short answer is NO! Everything we tried failed to resolve the issue. The voltage regulator is suspect, but we won't know until it has been tested. Hope to be able to report what Byrd finds when he gets things checked out. We flew back without using the battery power except for starting the engine at our one fuel stop and again after fueling at THA. We did turn on the master once to be able to listen to traffic and awos going into THA. Used handheld radio to advise of location and intensions.

This was 27 years since I flew to my second convention and I have only missed two in all those years, so being picked for that honor was a great highlight.

Congrats Paul! So glad you’re back flying and icing on the cake to win that award!

Sorry to hear replacing the alternator didn’t solve the problem although I think we all suspected it was more than just an alternator issue. I’d want to ring out the wiring associated with the charging system before swapping expensive parts. Wish I could have been of more help. Good luck resolving that!

Well, Katie and I were the lucky last departure from Newton. We waved goodbye, as Steve G, and then Miles and Karen took off and headed east. What a great week! We would like to thank all the folks at EWK airport, all of those folks did a great job during the week, they accomadated all of our requests. They arrived early, stayed late, and helped us move airplanes in order to keep them safe. Thanks also to Velvet, Carol, and Bob, they had a very ambitious schedule, and everything ran like clockwork. Thanks also to everybody who attended, it was awesome to meet all the great people, and see all of the spectacular airplanes. Hope to see you all in upstate New York next year!

P.S. When I returned the rental mini vans, someone left a hat behind in one of them. If you are missing a hat, PM me your address I'll mail it to you.

Gary, thanks for all your assistance with Byrd's plane. Just not sure what caused the initial problem and that apparently led to still more problems. Other than a wiring issue the only thing we couldn't really check was the voltage regulator and some of the efforts may have isolated it. We removed the 60 amp cb and it is bad, but we replaced it with a 60 am fuse jumper. Still no power. I'm betting on the vr or possibly that circuit breaker that is mounted under our instrument panels on the bottom about mid panel (left to right). That's just a wild guess on my part. We will get it figured out eventually.
Did you leave a hat in Byrd's plane? No one claimed it and that may be the one mentioned above.
Frank

Frank,
If we’re thinking about the same circuit breaker it’s sort of shown on fig. 42A-68. That’s a 2 amp. Klixon self resetting circuit breaker for the turn and bank and stall warning.

If the hat looks like the one below and it fits a fat head it’s mine.

I want to thank all the airport personnel at Newton [EWK} for all their help and also to all the convention people that made it a great convention. Since this year was a special year it was great to go to the old Cessna factory for the picture of homecoming. The flyouts were great and Mark and I put on over 30 hrs of flying. We got to the convention in 1 day but left Wed morn and took 3 days to get home due to weather. Tried to skirt the weather south through AR but it didn't help much. It was a great trip.

Posting this in this thread just in case some didn't see the other thread.

I took a few photos at the Doc tour, a few more at Stearman field, then got 4 landings and a takeoff at Beaumont, then all the landings at Cessna Field. This is my selection of the best shots.... I have entire landing sequences for each plane. I believe these are full original resolution. Enjoy! Brent

Also, several people commented on the vinyl decal on my rear truck window. It is available on ebay for $5.50 but you have to search on "Cessna 120 140 vinyl decal"
