Power Port Chargers

I seem to remember some discussion on this forum regarding issues with Chinese mfg'd power port chargers. I didn't have a problem (WRONG!) with mine as it has faithfully charged my iPhone, both iPads as needed and powered my Scout ADS-B IN unit. However, I have been having, for quite sometime, an issue with my ICOM 210 com radio. No issue with my ICOM 200. When I first power up my avionics after engine start, all I get on the 210, unless someone is broadcasting or I'm listening to AWOS, etc.,is static. What's strange is that by the time I've done my run up or taxi to the end of a runway, the static is gone and the radio works as it should. If I fly somewhere and get ready to leave, sometimes I get the static for a short period and sometimes no static, but the next day it starts over again. I've been living with it wondering what the problem is. Yesterday the light went off 8O and I pulled the charger out of the port and, you guessed it, no more static. Pushing it back in, there's the static again. So now I've got to try several other chargers I have to see if they create the same issue. If so I will have to locate one that doesn't create the static. I still don't understand why it bothers the 210 and not the 200 radios or why the problem goes away after a short time period :? Anyone having a suggestion for a replacement charger with two charging ports, pass it on to me. I am not prepared to purchase one of those panel mounted units that have a high cost.

I use an AUKEY dual USB charger from Amazon without any radio noise issues. It has two 2.4 amp circuits, and keeps both my iPad mini and my Stratus 2 batteries at 100%.

You might also want to check the grounding and shielding on the audio circuits on your radios. Your 210 may have an intermittent ground or shield that could change with temperature in the cabin. That could allow static from a cheap charger to get on the audio.

Stratus Aerospace Lab has a wing vent replacement that is a USB charger.

Cute, but a solution to a problem I don't have.

It may be a difference in adjustment to your squelch circuit in the radios themselves and/or some component that warms up and works better/differently in the squelch circuit of the 210.

Can you close the vent and still use the generator? If so, where does the exhaust air go? You don't need much cockpit cooling when the OAT is 20F. Also, only one port at 2.0 amps seems on the light side.

Thanks Miles, and others. I have several other UBS chargers, all probably mfg'd in China  , and I'll experiment with each to see if they produce the same problem. Seems some put out 1 amp, some 2.4 or so and some up to 5 amps. I use mine to keep my iPad, iPhone charged and to provide pwr for the Scout ADS-B "IN" data.

This one also displays the aircraft voltage in digital format and does not make noise in our 172. $16
