Land Light Lens - Size Matters!

I ordered a new landing light lens for the trainer-172 (which uses the same PN as the 170A/B series), Cessna PN 0523115-5 . I found the price ranged from $226 (from guess-who in Wichita) to $66 from Univair. It arrived Wed from Univair and is an LP Aeroplastics FAA/PMA part.

Unfortunately it was Waaay undersized. The old one measures 11" X 14-1/4" and the replacement rec'd from Univair measures 10-5/16" X 12-7/8" .... won't be retained by the "retainer". I called Univair and they confirmed with LP that the unit rec'd is undersized. Univair is back-ordered and LP has several in-stock. On Thursday I asked Rick at Univair to see if LP would drop-ship one to me (hoping to fly on Saturday) and there seemed some reluctance to pay overnight shipping for some reason. I asked Rick/Univair to let me know what to do with this defective part.... I've not heard back yet (Friday A.M.)

I may borrow the one from the 170 to make the flight tomorrow to the TIC170A fly-in at Kingsbury Aerodrome. :?

(BTW, Wag-Aero called me this A.M. to confirm they got my late-last-night online order and will mail the lens to me today, Priority Mail... $65 for the part from them. Linda at Wag Aero also confirmed they've measured the part they are shipping and found it to be 11" X 14-1/2". It will likely fit perfectly but if I need to I can always trim it on the belt-sander.)

What -fly a 172 to a 170 gathering while leaving the 170 home??

Surely you’d expect to receive some guff on that!

Aren't you afraid of taking the lens off an oh so fast red 170 and putting it on a 172 will upset the balance of the 172?

Speaking of balance- won’t he need to take his right side landing light lens off the 170
as well and maybe tape it to the other wing of the 172 in order to balance things out.

Further his 170 is red, and if I recall the 172 is green.
There is SO much wrong with all this...

“Bronze” he justifies it as.

Actually a beautiful color combination, even if he’s traveling at ultralight speeds.

As "Karnak the Magnificent" (Johnny Carson) once conjured (while holding the envelope to his turban...and as Ed McMahon repeatedly intoned the question: "How did the leader of Iraq get his first name?"...) ...

And Karnak answers:j......

I'm SADDAM sorry I started all this!
