For that matter what is a "latchless" door? What keeps it closed?

And by the way, thank you very much for leading the pack, Cessna should have done it from the beginning.
That's right Richard, Cessna should have done this. Evidently none of the execs ever tried to struggle putting bags and crap over the back seat. Of all the stuff we have put on the plane, this was the best mod ever, even better than replacing the Goodyear brakes. :D

I believe it was more likely both cost and weight-savings as there was no need to access a battery behind the baggage compartment. When the 175 was created the CG needed shifting aftward so the battery was relocacted behind the bag compt, and required access.... the bag door became a convenience as well as a necessity.

I cannot recall anyone suggesting you were ever fashionable, Ed... :P

Hi Keith-
I see your question never got answered.

The latch button is on the pilot side aft door post. It is a push button connected to a rod that pushes on another rod inside the baggage door that actuates the latch on the aft side of the baggage door. It sounds much more complicated than it really is, is actually very simple, and they work very well.

Dell expressed concern about the side panel having to clear the push rod with the rear bench seat installed. I have removed the bench seat and installed individual rear seats from a C-206 which have about 2" clearance with the side panel. Del's concern is definitely a factor with a bench seat.

Yes, Del has the baggage door installation down pat. He said he could install three baggage doors in the time it takes to install one set of "updated" main door latches. I bought this one from Dick Lemon years ago (can't remember what airplane it came from) but never had the (guts) to punch the hole... Del did a great job with the installation, and Doug Blair did a great job finishing it on the inside.

Why does Paul Wood have his airplane Nose DOWN? Hasn't he learned his lesson by now?

Click/tap on the picture and it will straighten up and fly right, just like Paul does now.
