Hi, y'all!

New member/ owner. I'm the next caretaker of N2993D, a '55. The two previous owners were also members here. I brought it home to Iowa from South Carolina yesterday- beautiful skies but a little more wind than I would have preferred.

28 years ago I owned a 120 and when I decided to jump back in to ownership, thought a 170 to be a little easier for hauling grandkids and hopefully getting the wife to come along.

Well... a HEARTY WELCOME to the Assoc'n! and the Forums!

My first taildragger experience was with a C-120 and I have a soft heart for that model as the result. (It forgave my lack of skill.)
I put about 800 hours on that airplane on pipeline patrol back in the early '70s. Great memories!

I'll bet you find the 170 to be a great little family plane (as long as it's not overloaded, of course.) I mistakenly overloaded mine one time in a moment of failed-brain-cells and the matter became quite evident when formation of four 170s I was leading were all airborne while I took another 1K-feet of runway to clear 50' alt. The girl does a great job below 2K lbs but that last 200 lbs make her a bit road-hoggish especially in warm temps. Just do the math and she'll do what she promises.

Post some pics so we can see her!

I’d post a pic but it says file too large and I’m not smart enough to change. :(

Dropped brother and sister in law off in Des Moines to get my car from picking up the airplane. Ground Controller asked what kind if airplane that was, and we ended up getting a tour of the tower. :)

Yes, people love a 170, even those who don't know what it is. Being treated like a visitor from the Golden Age of Aviation is part of the fun of owning one.

Welcome!

What part of IA you in? Sounds like the DM area maybe?

Some fun flying in Iowa. We try to do the third Thursday in Mason City.

Holler if you come North! We're just up the road!

Some folks email it to themselves ...then post it when their email resizes it.

Very nice! (I'm sure you'll be happy with its standard-performance since it's blue and turquoise...and not a slow green.)

Got radios?

A too old Apollo GPS and a Garmin 30 Nav/Com. Figure I’ll wait until after the ADS-B deadline when prices decline and give it the works.

I’ve heard about the “third Thurs.” in MCW but never had occasion to make it. I think Shane from PEA attends occasionally. The airplane is hangered in Ottumwa, close to Blakesburg, site of ‘85 170 convention.

Welcome to a great organization! We have lots of fun at flyins as well as here on the forum. '55 is my favorite 170, but they are all nice. Hope you can make one of our upcoming conventions.
(George is jealous he doesn't have a GREEN plane  )
