Hello everyone! It was the first book about flying I read in my adolescence, read again and again, which finally landed me here. The German title of Bud Helmericks’ “Arctic Bush Pilot” is “Cessna 170 - cleared to land” and without realizing it at the time it planted a dream which recently resurfaced from its dormant state: to spend a summer traveling across the US in a 170. I’m in my early years of retirement - from a research position in physics - and feel it’s high time to do something about that dream. With about 2500hrs in taildraggers - the vast majority of them without engine (gliders… ;-) ) - I want to acquaint myself with things “170” before looking seriously into feasibility and logistics (I spent most of my time in Patagonia) of this dream.
Lots of stuff to read and learn here - thanks a ton to all those maintaining and contributing to this site, and the Association, of course.
In due time I’ll be back with questions, for sure!
