New 170 owner
Hello all,
I finally bought the 170 I've been wanting for over 20 years and I couldn't be more excited! She's a 1955 that's mostly original. I think the paint is original Cypria Red Metallic although it looks brown now. Last month I was at Peach State airport (ga2) and I met a member of the association. We had a great talk and he encouraged me to join so here I am. I'm really enjoying all the information on maintaining and flying these wonderful machines. I look forward to meeting more of you soon.

Congratulations Todd and welcome!! I purchased 5453C last month and I'm here, it seems, constantly looking for info. It is an excellent resource. I'm in south Alabama. Maybe we can get together somewhere.
Best of luck with your new bird!

Thanks Vern and Joe. I will be looking for some places to visit this spring so maybe we can meet somewhere. Now let me see if I can figure out how to post a picture....

Re: New 170 owner
HI Todd !
I'm not too far away.... I've moved to Murfreesboro, TN but I still keep a hangar at Thomaston (KOPN). I have family in the area so am down that way fairly often.
We've had some 170 fly in lunches at Peachstate although I've missed the last couple of them. May be time for another one.
I'll stay in touch and let you know when I'm going to be nearby. There are also a couple of places between us that would make good meeting spots... Tullahoma TN has the Beechcraft museum and I hear there is a restaurant at Winchester TN that some of the guys fly to. I tend to work weekends though which makes it tough for me to join in the hundred dollar burger fun.....

Wow! Beautiful bird Joe. What do you know about the color? I'm trying to figure out what cypria red looked like but no one seems to know. I can't find a single spot on mine that's not faded into this coppery maroon color.

Thanks! I had the paint redone 5 years ago with Jetglo "Ruby Red" by a guy in Macon. I don't think he's still in business, though.

Todd, glad I got to meet you and your son at Peach State During lunch. Plus really happy to see you took me up on joining the 170 Association. With the Georgia weather improving hope we meet up at the Barnstormers Resturant again soon. I will send out an eblast to everyone on a date in March.

Re: New 170 owner
So what I've already learned from this group is that red 55's are the best and the fastest 170's built. I guess I'm just a lucky guy! Im glad you saw my post Jim. I'm at barstormers almost every Saturday even if I don't fly in. I'm a part of the youth program there teaching youngsters maintanence skills. I'm looking forward to seeing you're beautiful 170 there this year. I'm a new tailwheel pilot so the wind has been challenging for me lately but I'm getting better. Hopefully I will be confident enough in a few weeks to start venturing out for some of these Saturday morning breakfasts you were telling me about.

Out of the goodness of our hearts, those of us with more seasoned GREEN examples allow the guys in the dreaded red to believe they have the fastest. After all they're flying a red plane. They've got to feel good about something no matter how ridiculous we know it is.N3407D wrote:So what I've already learned from this group is that red 55's are the best and the fastest 170's built.

Bruce as you can see by my picture I'm not sure I can even consider myself in the red column yet. Until I can get some new paint on her then I guess I'm in a class by myself.

Easy there, big fella. They DID make more in 1952 than in any other year.Aryana wrote:You've managed to buy the absolutely best year 170 ever made.
That said, I reserve the right to be biased until I get some time in a '55.

I have time in every year and so I can unequivocally say that the very best years are somewhere between '48 and '56.

Todd, I noticed that you still have the original Cessna "bird" logo and 2" N-numbers on your vertical stab. So cool to have the original stuff still there.
Can you look at your left rear door post and tell us what it says on your trim data plate? I'm curious to know what your plane's interior configuration from Cessna was.
Please don't tell anyone as I might lose my membership in the red 170 camp, but mine was born Welsh Green. (Rust & Tan upholstery & Trooper Tan/Autumn Rust trim)
Close enough.
Don't let this one get out either, but I kind of like green on airplanes.
