I was in Texarkana today and ran across these bootleggers smuggling beer up to Mena. Somehow, beer seems to help get airplanes put back together.

Nope, no SPG! With Texarkana being about the only place to buy beer east of Dallas, beggars can't be choosers. They had Pearl Light and Schlitz but had to pass on those. Sticking with 30-can cases makes it easier to transport, important consideration for bootleggers.

Well the work on the 170s should progress smoothly, for the next few days anyway, the revenuers were skillfully avoided and the beer made it safely into Del's refrig.The evening at Del's hangar was enjoyed by all.

Arash, they put away the tools and closed the hangar door before raiding the fridge. Check over on my "Road to Recovery" thread in a half hour or so and I'll show some progress they made today.

We did have a great evening. I'm just sorry we let the time slip by, and hope you guys found a decent meal to go with all the hydraulic sandwiches. I forgot to tell you they turn out the lights and roll up the streets at 9pm around here.

Credit to George Horn for starting the tradition ("There's no Beer in Mena"), and for thanks to him for not being too mad that we didn't warn him it is a dry county Thanks to George's observation, and subsequent announcement, the support has been overwhelming. Ole Gar even stopped buy on a trip thru Mena a few years ago with some beer. We have considered the "Will Work for Beer" sign, but we are afraid somebody might take us serious

We had a great evening! Thank you for providing the opportunity. We drank just the right amount of beer and there should be enough left for a few more de-briefings with the shop guys. We were glad we ate a late lunch so we didn't starve to death. After leaving the airport we went to Cruizzer's Drive-In for burgers and chocolate malts. Perfect ending to the day. We even got entertained late that night with the line of severe thunderstorms that rumbled thru town with torrential rain, thunder, wind, and a little hail. Luckily, the planes were safe in Del's hangar and the tornadoes stopped in Oklahoma.
