170A Tailwheel Bracket.
My Cessna 170 Project has a cracked tailwheel bracket. The bracket that attaches to the rear of the tailbone, and which, the tailwheel spring attaches to. I have found a bracket for sale that is slightly different in that it has the two fingers that extend forward on each side to allow more attach points the the tailcone along the diagonal bulkhead. I know the bracket that I have found is a Cessna Part and is probably good for the L-19 or the Cessna 170B.
My question is: Would it work oK on my 170A.
Part Number: PN 0642140-3

I meant Tailcone....Not tailbone...Doi. There were a couple of girls sitting in front of me at the cafe and they were talking about uncomfortable bicycle seats while I was typing.
Re: 170A Tailwheel Bracket.
The conversion to the newer style bracket is found in SK70-52a in the Maintenance Library. The p/n 0642140-3 is not a number in the 170b IPC. The newer style bracket has a p/n of 0512000-75 for the assembly. Do a search here using "fishmouth" as the search word for more information.

You have the early bracket. Those old style are still available new and so are the newer brackets complete. I wouldn't replace the cracked on with the same old style, I'd upgrade.
I wouldn't buy a used bracket in either case unless I could personally inspect it and make sure the holes aren't drilled out oversize and that it is complete.
Air Repair has the new bracket which comes with all the rest of the parts including new springs, clamps and U brackets. All you need but the rivets. These parts have the L-19 part number on them but they are identical to the 170B.
As Gary has already pointed out SK-70-52a is the approval to retro fit older style to new.

Thanks,
I called Air Repair and got the number for their kit BDAC 170. Does this kit number look right?

The tail wheel bracket can be repaired. "Sometimes it can be welded in position ,BUT depending on position of the crack. Have a talk with the Cessna technical people .

My tailwheel bracket looks as if it has already been welded a couple of times.

that welding that you see on your bracket could be part of the manufacturing process.
