Cheap gas in Texas.....

Post by KG »

from AVweb:

In one of the bolder loss leader approaches we’ve ever seen, Redbird’s Skyport in San Marcos, Texas, will be selling avgas for a dollar a gallon throughout the month of October. What’s the catch? There really isn’t one, other than the company will ask fuel buyers to participate in a brief survey probing their views on flying habits and how—or even if—the price of avgas affects those views and, especially, flying behavior.

Plus, no limit on quantity purchased or frequency of purchases! These guys must have deep pockets and are willing to spend their money to do this. They are to be commended no matter what the reason is, it will get planes dusted off and out of the hangars which is what they are trying to do. I can't see where it will make any long term difference.

Do either of you guys have a 3000gal storage container? The next fly-in could be in Texas....Members buy now, donate a buck or 2 to the scholarship and fuel up for the return....

Need to fly down there in a KC-135 or KC-10  We have about the least expensive 100LL anywhere around ($4.82) in Granbury and were discussing it yesterday. We think the days of under $5.00 fuel going to have a short life and it will likely just get higher. It does have a pretty big impact on leisurely flyers :(

If you read the whole article, its only 100LL and has to go into the plane, no cans. I see making a few stops in San Marcos in October.

I've been up in Yellowpine, Idaho, since 2 Jul 13. Slow year at Johnson Creek Airstrip and camp ground. Got home 3 Sep 13. Wish I could have been up there with my old C-170B. At 91, it's just too hard to keep an old airplane going.

I have been in there twice this week and they are very friendly. The wait can be long but obviously worth it. Due to the overwhelming response the price of one dollar a gallon will end Oct. 15.
I fly into Smithville often to be with my wife who is working oil leases in the Bastrop area. I have been flying around here some and went to Fredricksburg one day. Im loving this Texas hill country and wish to see more.
