tube to check fuel level

Post by 9178A »

I have seen the clear tubes to visually check fuel quantity for most Cessna's but have not seen one for our 170's. Does anyone make them for our planes and if so please give me contact info. Sporty's say they have a universal one but I haven't seen it. How does the one from Sporty"s work?

Pretty sure the universal one is simply an unmarked tube.
Start with an empty tank and mark the tube every 5 or 10 gallons until full.

Buy the Fuelhawk dipstick for the C-172 with 19 gal tanks. The dipstick has about 3/4 inch below the "0" mark. Just cut the stick off flush with the "0" and clean up the cut. I've checked mine by filling the tanks and going fly for various periods of time. I dip the tanks before the truck tops it off and it's always dead on. Just remember when you insert the stick into the tank, place the stick against the back of the filler neck and you will feel a baffle at the bottom of the tank. Just push the stick against that baffle and the rear of the neck.

I have the graduate scale if you want them for the 170B. It will save you from having to drain the tank. I made mine. Very easily. If you want, I think I still have a couple pieces of acrylic tube to make them. Let me know via PM. I bought a bunch of it. A one foot piece cost about $5/foot. You pay shipping.
