It is a '48 and they have a different lip than later A and B models.

Went to Long Beach, CA yesterday for some CFII training when I happened upon the "Memphis Belle". Of course, the real "Belle" is in a museum in Dayton I think but this was apparently the one used in the movie. What a great airplane... the B-17 is pretty cool too!!!

Oz502man, did you land on the gravel road just for the picture? Looks like a tight squeeze. At least the prop is above the grass. Good picture.

Hi n3833v,
It is a farm track through a wheat field near the airstrip I am based at. It is about 400m from the fence at one end to the trees at the other. I just land there and other similar spots for fun. I had a photo before I painted the plane parked between some cotton fields so I thought that would be a nice follow up.

We had fun at the 2013 Sun-N-Fun event in Lakeland, FL. Jim & Lolly Wildharber (left) and John & Raven Wildharber (right). The plane was parked in the Vintage Aircraft Camping area which was an easy walk to the Type Tent. John and Raven set up a tent were we are standing while Jim and Lolly opted for the Holiday Inn. John passed his oral and flight check ride two weeks prior to flying the plane from Cartersville, GA to Lakeland with Jim. The ladies drove down. For the return trip ( 500 miles) John and Raven flew the plane home. I asked John afterwards how his first long return flight went. He said GREAT NO PROBLEM, but taxi and takeoff was a little stressful with all the planes present. 8)

As close as you can park to the beach in CA without landing on it. If you look close you can see the 170 on the right side of the panorama.

Frasca Field today, where we had a nice but short tour of Rudy Frasca's War Bird Museum.

That's five minutes from my house. I wish I had known you were going out; I would have loved to oogle over your airplane, John! Do you ever come down for the EAA fly-in they host?
