East Gull Lake (9Y2 )

Post by dunlaps3 »

During the summer , you can fly into East Gull Lake ( 9Y2 ) near Brainerd , Minn . It is a nice grass strip . Walk over to Maddens Resort and eat at the Pizzia / Sub place . Or if your on floats , you can taxi right up to it . Maddens also has a fine restuarant , but it might turn into a $200 hamburger. Then , as long as you're at East Gull airstrip , there is a golf driving range and you can hit a bucket of balls for 5 bucks. ( using their clubs if you want ) . I don't even golf , but It still is fun to wack 'em . Andrew

Voyager - 10nm NE of Siren, Wisconsin. NE/SW paved strip with parking area off the SE end of the airstrip. Walk a short 1/4 mi. around the SW end of the strip to the clubhouse at the golf course. Sunday brunch is great or you can order of the menu. If you have time, bring the clubs and spend some time.

I liked Barnstormers Grill located in the old terminal building at Norfolk NE. My wife an I stopped on our way to Longmont CO . You can park your plane out front and the food and the service were both great. Bill K

Harry's Cafe - Lakeville, MN

Post by T. Gandy »

I didn't fly here, but stopped by while on business in Lakeville. http://www.eatatharrys.com/ What first got my attention was the P-40 flying through their sign on the highway. The motif of this slightly upscale restaurant is totally aviation. Atmosphere, wait staff and food are all excellent.

It's about 4 miles from Airlake Airport (KLVN) on the Minneapolis Sectional. I don't know if Airlake has a courtesy car, so you'll want to call and check.

Amana IA (C11)
Back in the early 80's I worked at the Muscatine IA airport. We used to fly over to Amana IA (C11) and land on the 2600 ft. grass strip and then walk a short distance to the Colony Inn Restaurant. It was a wonderful place to go and eat, family style dining. The food was served in large bowls and you dished up what you wanted. It looks as though it all still there and open for business. I hope to fly there this summer in my (new to me) 53 Cessna 170B and check it out again.

That brings back fond memories of two Cessna 170 Association conventions; Blakesburg in 1985 (my first), and Marion in 1992. :D

Just flew my 170A to Amana, IA (C11) on Monday. My wife and I like to walk through the shops and get some excellent food at the Ox Yoke restaurant. You won't leave there hungry. Just a short walk from the 2600' turf runway ($5 fee at the airport).
