Horizontal stab leading edge protection

Post by nicow »

Has anyone found a good method of protecting the leading edge of the horizontal stabiliser from stone damage etc. I've seen the black tape that is sometimes used but I was hoping for something that offers a little more protection, Thanks

I don't have the part number, but Cessna actually makes a rubber strip that glues on the leading edge of the horizontal. One of the guys in the 120-140 Association gave me the info. I had a set of them on my 140A.

Unless it's performed under a Service Kit, ... the thick rubber stone-guard requires STC or other approval in the SAT region.
The best protection for the tail is....wheel pants. IMHO

Just looked it up and the Service kit for the rubber Horizontal leading edge cover is AK182-217. That covers S/N18003-20999 and 25000-27169. That same kit also covers most of the single engine Cessna's out there. We are using mud and rock flaps on our A/C and are still getting rock damage. FWIW Brian
