$23,471 for a Lyc 180 conversion with STC, Engine and prop? You must have done all the work yourself including engine OH as well as getting good deals on parts, etc. At that price, the conversion is a no brainer. For us mere mortals, the price is more like $40,000 or more and It's a bit too much for me.
Want to do another one? I'll pay $30K?

My 180 Lycoming conversion:
Bought FWF from a wrecked A Model 1100 hr. eng $18,000
sold old Continental FWF (6,000)
added Javelin and misc. parts to install eng 2,000
Total $14,000
Ran that engine one year and 80 hours then found a spun center main bearing. Pulled engine and bought a fresh overhauled wide deck for $15,000. (yeah, I found a deal) Sold old engine for $6,000. Now at $23,000 with new overhaul. Have run that two years and 120 hours and it's doing great. I would never go back to the small engine but then I would not want to pay much more for the conversion as the total invested then gets in to the "I can buy a 180 for that" range.
Yes I did all the labor myself. No I will not share my total invested, it's embarrassingly high.

But Dave, what about the STC and Prop cost for your conversion? Adding $9200 for the Del Air STC and a new prop and gov and it looks close to $40K to me?

From the wrecked 170A I received everything FWF. Everything. Including the STC. I did have to contact AVCON to get the STC reissued. They charged $125 but actually getting them to complete the deal after I sent them the money took three months. Del-Air is the way to go plus you can get the 200lbs. more gross weight STC which he won't/can't sell to me.
