Question about Skis

Post by Paul-WI »

Hi again everyone;

Got another question. Being a new 1st time owner I am gaining a huge knowledge curve! 58D came with a set of Schneider 4000 Skis and hardware but no paperwork on installation procedures. 58D never had skis on it before. Does anyone know where I can get the "manual" and also, will I need an STC or 337 for installing Skis? These may seem like simple questions, but I really am new at this ownership thing and am trying to gleam as much info as I can. I did do a search on this website as well as google, but could not find anything. We got 6" of snow last night and am thinking that I may want to get rolling on this project! :D

Thanks!

A quick scan of the FAA STC database brought up the following:

STC Number:
SA1916NM
This certificate issued to:
Schneider Richard J

STC Holder's Address:
20 Malaspina Drive
Eagle River AK 99577
United States
Description of the Type Design Change:
Installation of Schneider Model SWS-4000C-15 main wheel skis.

STC Number:
SA1909NM
This certificate issued to:
Schneider Richard J

STC Holder's Address:
20 Malaspina Drive
Eagle River AK 99577
United States
Description of the Type Design Change:
Installation of Schneider wheel skis, 6-inch to 10-inch aluminum wheel adapters and 29x11.0-10 8-ply minimum tires on main landing gear.

I'd start with contacting the STC holder.

Paul,

Two other outfits who might be able to help are:

Aero Ski Mfg Co
P O Box 58
Brooten, MN 56316
Phone: 320-346-2285
Fax: 320-346-2270

and

Wipaire, Inc.
1700 Henry Ave. Fleming Field (SGS)
South St. Paul, MN 55075
Phone: (651) 451-1205
Fax: (651) 457-7858

These are both ski manufacturers, and may be able to help you with parts, plastic bottoms, bungees, etc.

I have a set of Fly-Lite 3000 skis for my 170 that have not been installed yet. There's a 180hp 170 on skis at Lake Elmo airport, 21D. If you ever come through the Twin Cities, please look me up!

Best Regards,

John

I sure would like to get the opportunity to at least ride in a 170 on ski's sometime. It looks like it would be a hoot! Maybe I can plan a trip to the in-laws in southern Michigan this winter....

Ski flying for Miles

Post by Green Bean »

Miles- If you ever get the chance to come to Alaska in the winter, will make sure you get to fly a 170 with ski's, stol kits, VG's, long props, 8.50x6 wheels, and gel cell battery's. And you won't even have to get the snow shoes out to pack down a runway, unless you want. Best flying in the world next to floats.

Be careful, you never know when I might just show up....

Corey, my heart skipped a beat when that picture popped up! I thought it was an "oh $%(!" picture until I took a closer look. Careful with pictures like that, there are quite a few old 170 lovers on this forum. :)

Thanks Paul and Sorry Miles. I guess that picture does look like the beginning of a very bad day at first glance!
