Flang Pushrod Housing Cracks
Has anyone experienced cracks in the Pushrod Hosuing Flang (Part #530163) - just above the lower bolt hole? I recently had a pushrod hosuing modification kit installed - to eliminate oil leaks associated with the pushrods. However, after the installation leaks began to appear and were traced to what is described as cracks in the puhsrod housing flang. My mechanic is in the process of trying to locate replacement parts for the cracked flangs. Curious is this is a common or extraordinary occurence.
Did you install the Real Gaskets push-rod retrofit kit? (O-470
style, spring-loaded pushrod tube arrangement). If so, the
instructions warns about over-torquing the nuts that hold
the pushrod base casting (what I think you're calling the flanges?).
I don't have the instruction sheet handy, but the torque specified
ain't much.... Since they are "plain" nuts, I suppose they are suspect
to them backing off and losing torque (which is probably what causes
folks to "give them a good twist" in an effort to keep them from leaking).
Don't say I said so, but a guy could install steel locknuts instead of the
plain nuts in an effort to keep them from losing the (admittedly) light
torque they're supposed to get in the 1st place....
