Mags

Post by 170C »

There seems to folks that like each brand of mags kinda like Ford vs Chevy. I have always had Bendix and they do have some AD's, but other than an impulse coupling spring breaking over the NM mountains one time, I haven't had any real problems (fingers crossed  ). I remember when there were rumors going around that Slicks were "throw away" mags. Never had that confirmed or denied and always wondered why they couldn't be repaired or rebuilt like Bendix ones. I have had some AI's say they wouldn't own one brand or the other. Kinda like some AI's won't work on planes that burn auto fuel and others speak well of that fuel.

Early Slicks where throw away mags designed to go about 1000 hours. When they went 2000 hours instead and people couldn't overhaul them they got mad.

It was and still is a marketing nightmare for Slick.

All Slicks have been overhaulable for some time now.

The above came straight from a Slick Factory Rep.

I have Slicks on my Cub and Bendix on the 170.
