Well, one really fun spot is just down I40 a ways. Check out the Petit Jean thread in the Fly In section. Also, do a search on back country, Eric I believe posted a link to a web site listing back country strips.

It's not a back country strip, but a nice grass strip place to fly to for hanger flying and to watch the sail planes on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon is the gliderport at Benton, TN (92A). I don't know if they allow overnight camping on the field or not but they are a very friendly bunch. Also glider rides and or training available there.

Maybe not quite "back country," but I had a really nice visit at Reelfoot Lake a few years ago in my J3. There's camping very close to the airstrip, as well as cabins and a restaurant. The state park web site is http://www.state.tn.us/environment/park ... lfootLake/.

Best Regards,

http://www.backcountrypilot.org is a fairly new site, about (surprise) back country flying. It seems to be mainly western-states based participants.
But http://www.supercub.org might have some information about good places to go in the southeast part of the country.

Tailpilot,

Call them at Benton (Chilhowee Glider Port) (92A) and see if they allow camping. 770-382-5969 is the number. You and all your family would enjoy it and it is not too far from Nashville.

I just went to the AirNav site and found a Chilhowee web site with two more phone numbers. The one from the AOPA airport page is a Georgia area code. They are 423-338-2000 and 423-506-9015. The web page is http://www.chilhowee.com.
