Cowlings needed for 1954 170B

Post by Bramlett »

Looking for a top and bottom engine cowling for a 1954 170B. If you have any or know where I can get some please let me know. I think that mine are beyond repair.

All the best and thank you in advance to the wonderful members of this association. You can contact me via the membership directory email address, private message, or Two Five Six Four Two Four Two Four One Three

I've seen a number of 170 cowlings that were both 'beyond repair' and still in service.
I am somewhat surprised that there still isn't an approved faithful replica available in carbon or glass.

I visited with a company at Oshkosh about nose-bowls upper/lower and they took scans of my ‘53…for the purpose of 3D printing them. They’ve not put us on their “front burner”….but they say they are still working on it… I’ll “Nudge” them again.

Expand your search to include 1956-58 C-172 cowlings which have same cowl part number. Also expand your search by Googling sub-assembly part numbers. For example, here is a reasonably priced upper cowl without the nose bowl part. The dent can be removed by anyone handy with an english wheel. The nosebowl parts are available new made from fiberglass. Again, search using part numbers.

If you use a 56-58 upper cowl on a 53-55 airplane you’ll want to add the access door on the right side.

My neighbor at Rosamond Skypark (L00) has the STC for 170 Carbon Cowls. He can definitely get you set up. PM me and I can put you (or anyone else) in contact with him.

Chris

Chris, feel free to post his contact info….IF he allows that sort of thing…
