Mike, remember to ask BAS for your 170 association discount. Unfortunately It will only take a minor bite out of the exchange rate, but might make a beverage or two affordable.

I recently ordered a set of BAS shoulder harness kit with lap belts. They told me they no longer offer a TIC170A discount. It won't hurt to double checkc170b53 wrote:Mike, remember to ask BAS for your 170 association discount. Re: Seat Belts
Uh...FARs do indeed apply to CAR-aircraft. It's my understanding that Metal to Metal seat belts are mandatory.n2582d wrote:.... I thought the old style belts (non metal to metal) were no longer legal but mine say they conform to TSO C-22E. (FAR 23.785(B) requires metal-to-metal latches but the C-170 was certified under CAR 3 so that doesn't apply.) ...

Gary, to answer your question ..they are "Rusco" belts. My new set of shoulder harness belts from BAS have arrived and I should have them in this week. Mike
Re: Seat Belts
All FAR's? FAR 23.785 is what I referenced. Does an IA need to do a side by side comparison of CAR 3 and FAR 23 when performing an annual inspection on a C-170 to make sure that it complies with FAR 23? I'm sure one would find a lot that needed to be revised. Fire resistance for original interior fabrics comes to mind. Compare also CAR 3.444 and FAR 23.971 for fuel tank sump drains. The 170 did not originally have them. They were not required when our planes were certified but FAR 23 requires that fuel tank sump drains be installed. George you are correct in that metal to metal seat belts are required in our 170's -- it's a requirement I too thought was the case but couldn't find earlier. But it's not because they are required by FAR 23. Metal to metal seatbelt latches are required by FAR 91.205(b)(13).gahorn wrote:Uh...FARs do indeed apply to CAR-aircraft. RIGHT... and, Uh... Last time I checked... FAR 91.205(b)(13) ... is ...an ... FAR.n2582d wrote:All FAR's? FAR 23.785 is what I referenced. (PS: I never said ALL FARs... but perhaps it may have been more correct to say "all applicable FARS"...? There is no FAR which requires CAR3 aircraft to comply with FAR23.)
