Buying a 180--need help

Post by theduckhunter »

I have put a contract and a deposit on a 54 180 after being so heart broken for the past 24 months since I sold my 170. Since it's been a while since I have bought an airplane I forget what paperwork I need to have upon execution of the purchase? I know I need:

1. cashiers check for the seller
2. an official Bill of Sale (where can I get one?)
3. some FAA registration form for me to send in after the sale?(where can I get one?)
4. IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE I FORGET

And of course I need to recieve ARROW with the plane(less registration), from the owner. I bounced aroung the faa.gov site but didn't find any clear answers.

Thanks in advance for the help. If the prebuy goes well I think I might have a new 180 and maybe Harold H won't be the only one with a 180 at the 170 flyin.

If you are a AOPA member they have a nice packet with all the forms and lots of good buying information they can send you. I have got the bill of sale and registeration forms from the business office at my local airport in the past.

Robbie, that's great! Where did you find it? I'm working on one in Colorado
(1966 180H) but the seller and I are somewhat apart on price. Post a picture when you get it. Russ Farris

The old story/joke goes.... When my 170 breaks,
usually, a C-note gets it going again. When one of
the 180s breaks, it's more like 4 or 5 C-notes to
get it going again!

I gotta admit, they are awesome airplanes,as long as your wallet's up to the challenge. Mine's not,so I think I'll stick with the "poor man's skywagon"-- they fly nicer anyway. 8)

I've had fast. The money didn't last.
I've got slow. The money doesn't go.
(I may be slow, ...but I'm ahead of Joe!)

My plane is kept along side a water filled gorge
Most people call me George

If you need to maintain or know about a part
I have been known to be a work of art

My plane is polished and red
But I look to the north with dread

Got to get to Petit Jean up in Arkansas
But a white and green A made me drop my jaw

He will be up there in the park
While I fly around in the dark

Lenoard S. also bought a 180 (N180SC) this year. I'm trying to get him to fly to Tehachapi also.
