NASCAR coming to AWO

Post by Larry Holtz »

I see by the Seattlle PI that the city officials of Arlington, Marysville and some officials of Snohomish County have a plan to lure NASCAR to western Washington. The three planned sites are in close proximity to AWO being just south and west of runway 34. With the mandated TFRs around stadiums, The airport would be shut down during NASCAR events. This airport is probably the busiest GA airport in the state with 500 aircraft based there and 370 operations a day, over 40% being transiut operations.*
Those folks in Snohomish County may want to contact their county people and the rest of us can write to: Mr. Thomas Valley
Director of Corporate Development
International Speedway Corp.
1801 International Speedway Blvd.
Daytona, FL. 32114
386-254-2700

I am sure that Mr Valley knows of the importance of GA in getting fans to and from events and may want to consider a site that would not impede air traffic during NASCAR events.

Has anyone told AOPA about the proposed siting of this NASCAR track? They need to know about it ASAP.
