Would the wording of the STC prevent using the tail pipes on a TCM IO-360 vs the O-300?
They both use the same exhaust in a 170 so they'd bolt right up - if allowed.

Ask Mr. Bartone.

Ask Mr. Bartone.
That would be my next step if no one here knew the answer.
I figured someone on the forum might have copy of the STC.

This is easy. Bartone does not have an STC.

Well, at least he doesn't have one he sells with his pipes.

No positive, but I thought Pat got an STC after John Benham passed away?

Problem is.... (last heard) the issuing agency, SAT-FSDO declared that the Parts List associated with the Benham STC was invalid/lost/non-existant. This caused quite a stir with Mr. Benham, who subsequently expressed his frustration at the Benton Harbor convention, and subsequently quit selling his STC. When Mr. Benham died, Pat acquired the left-over parts. The validity of the STC has some question to it...but who cares? It's a good mod.

Who said "an old dog can't teach new tricks"?? (or something twistedly-similar?) - bluEldr protege'

I'm talking out-of-school...and I may be wrong about this... but I believe Pat never cared to develop or host an STC for his own version, perhaps for liability reasons, ... and that his interest in 170 mods inspired him to acquire John's materials.

But it's best to get the straight info, should one care to have it, "straight from the horse's mouth". Pat's contact info is in the Directory.

In any case, the factory exhaust tailpipes on 170s was not Cessna's best idea IMHO, and the Benham/Bartone tailpipes are an attractive mod to my tastes... if I weren't such an originality nut.

Last I talked to Pat which was about the time of Behnam's passing, he claimed he did not have nor sell an STC for his pipes. Maybe (apparently) I misunderstood and he was saying he did not have an STC he would sell for the pipes. What was clear was that if you wanted to install his pipes according to him, it was a simple field approval. If he had an STC he would sell I likely would have bought pipes years ago.

George, what's going on? First you post about painting a GREEN stripe on your trailer, then this? Before you know it, you'll be in cahoots with BL and start recommending MoGas with ethanol for our engines.
THAT will NEVER happen!

MOgas ruins the taste of ethanol. Ask Del!
