Thanksgiving flight

Post by Hineywheel Bill »

Here's hoping everyone had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. Sherry, Sunny (our puppy) and I certainly did! We traveled in our 170 from our new home in Middle Tennessee to our old home in Alabama to give Thanks with friends and family. It's a flight of only roughly an hour and a half but it's long enough to remind us of something else to be thankful for: the gift of flight and the blessing of being able to do so in a Cessna 170.
We departed Lawrenceburg on Wednesday around 11am with winds 17 gusting to 23, not too bad since it provided a pretty nice tailwind all the way down. That tailwind turned into a pretty nice crosswind on landing though, but no big deal. Our return trip this afternoon was uneventful and smooth as silk, though visibility and ceiling were beginning to rapidly deteriorate about 10 miles from home base. By the time we got Bonnie Blue back in her hangar and unloaded the weather was beginning to clear.
Yes, our family has plenty to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, and every day, but being able to fly a Cessna 170 puts it over the top.
Y'all have a safe rest of your Thanksgiving weekend!
