Fuel tanks in high wing cessnas.

Post by ghostflyer »

Just cruising through the Cessna 170 library and found a section on long range fuel tanks. This triggered a memory on short range fuel tanks in Cessna 172,s. I flew a Cessna 172 [cant remember which model] but had fuel tanks only for 2.5 hours of flight . When asked about why such small size tanks it was explained to me the aircraft had been specially built and purchased by the Thai Royal family . It’s use was for members of the royal family and “friends “ to learn to fly in. Ok ,why the small tanks? It’s so they can’t fly out of the country . That was said to me in all seriousness . Plus on this airfield there was a couple of Cessna 170B,s and and a couple of bird dogs and a early Lockheed C130 on this airfield for many years. All in American colours . There was a flood a couple of years ago ,fate unknown. I think they were left from the Vietnam days.
