170 Literature

Post by bsdunek »

A good friend of mine was cleaning out some of his "junk", and gave me some things he thought I'd like. He was an avid pilot, aircraft owner and motorcyclist. In the past he has owned several airplanes including a Maule and a Great Lakes. He also owned a motorcycle/bicycle shop for many years. Unfortunately, he has Parkinsons, and can't do any of those things any more.
Attached is a copy of a Cessna 170 and 172 price list. I thought it kind of interesting as they (so far as I remember) only marketed both planes one year. I'm sure many of you have seen this, and some of you may have this same brochure. I just thought you'd fine it interesting.

Very cool! Does anyone know what the "Safe Flight Speed Control System" is, sounds interesting.

Good question. They didn't have that for the A Model so it's not in any of my 170/170A literature. Maybe George or Bruce know?

It was an early form of AOA. It used a vane/transducer to power a fast-slow indicator needle. It was later adapted to the Navy "speed-ball" system with a red down chevron .. a green ball (on-speed)...and a yellow up chevron.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

Who would have thought they would offer a computer in a C170?

It’s interesting that Cessna did not offer a “painted airplane” as an option like they did in 1950.
