I went with McFarlane's galvanized steel cables for my '50 A model. The lower flap cable they provide in the kit is 6 inches too long for the serial number. After going round and round with an engineer there, they finally sent me a stainless steel version that was the correct length at no additional charge. Incidentally, they have the incorrect p/n because the Illustrated Parts Catalog ALSO contains the incorrect p/n in the standard installation. The seaplane options diagram does list the correct stainless steel p/n.

I just had both rudder cables replaced this last Oct/Nov.......Part #MC0510105-1 Cable, Rudder Control 1.00 Each 224.960 $ 224.96 times 2 of course. Not sure where sourced. But the shop uses McFarlanes a lot. Mine also a '50 A model.

Looking at the logbooks, looks like I installed CCKT170-02G cable kit back in 2011. Their web site lists that as $2015.18 now. If you want to order that one, might be worth checking with them to ensure they have the correct lower flap cable for your serial number. The Illustrated Parts Catalog, on page 83, lists the lower flap cable as 0510105-5. Because of this, McFarlane also indicates this and produces the cable matching this -5 part. However, Cessna made an error in the IPC. Page 109 lists the Stainless Steel control cable part numbers, and calls out a -114 (essentially, Cessna added 100 to the galvanized steel equivalent p/n to indicate the stainless version). The CORRECT length p/n cable for galvanized steel is 0510105-14 and is six inches shorter than the -5. The -5 cable was used up to serial number 18728, and the -14 starting 18729 & on. When I found this out, I spoke to an engineer there who sent me the -114 at no extra charge.

Thx everyone for the info ! When Wentworth Salvage Company took this 170 apart they butchered all cables (which were practically new) and maybe I can find someone to make them up for me . I really can't afford Mcfarlanes prices but I'm sure it's quality work and material.

Twenty five years ago I purchased rudder cables

Excellent installation A&P IA Cahokia IL

I had a number of conversations with the mfg who was located long time on Long Island.NYC

They were expert. Cannot member their name.

You will probably also replace the ferules HDPE plastic were cables exist the fuselage.

Are you having to replace ALL the cables in aircraft?

Yes, it looks like Wentworth cut all cables with a grinder and they have "unwrapped " so coming up with an accurate length for each might not be possible . the ButchPilot !
