i've never done a window install but hope to do my back windows some day. where did you get your window from?

LP Aero. Thru Aircraft Spruce.

Fuselage and tail feathers painted.

Used white 2k epoxy primer. And a single stage poly for the top coat. It's not a show car finish but the main objective was corrosion protection.

Wings, cowling, and lift struts next.

Wow someone actually replacing the center windshield strip.

I always liked the strip look. Never thought it a visual obstruction. Then I installed the one piece no strip windshield and wondered how I ever saw around that distracting strip.

Although I'm not a hard core originality nut, I do prefer the "as it left the factory" look with everything but motorcycles. I'll cut them up frames included.

Everything I've flown for over 10 years has had center structure down the windshield. Have never measured but at least 5-6" wide. So I'm not to worried about a 1" strip. What will be more challenging is the round gauges. Been on glass that whole time also. Haven't been in tailwheel in long time so going to do transition training to knock the rust off.

Thought I'd give an update.
All paint work is done.
All AD research is done and verified.
Next take it to the airport, reassemble, inspect, and fly.
The AI has been by to check progress and see things he can't when it's all together.
Getting excited about flying it soon. Been a lot of work.

Same here. I like the look and the so strip windshields bulge out more giving the 170 that Aeronca Champ look.

I noticed only the tail feathers sticking out Friday and wondered if you were putting the trim on. I wondered if you were going to put the wings on there and use that East West runway in front of the house

Paul that east west runway is VERY tempting but will pass. Too easy for the locals to know exactly which door to knock on. Speaking of that, stop by sometime.

I wouldn't be one to stir the pot on the red vs green saga. But I also race dirt track cars. Mine is RED and I've never been beaten by a green car. Maybe it's the teaspoon of MMO I put in the fuel tank, or possibly it's the synthetic oil I use.

My son named the plane Blue Lightening, so we're going with that.

Finally received my stencil's so now I can finish the final trim work.

I'm glad to see that your birds will be flying head first on both sides!

No controversy here. Red is obviously slower.

It's obvious to me he couldn't afford any more slow effect after employing the high drag factor of the Piper Cub Z stripe.

I like the blue/grey on white. I've always thought dk blue/lt blue on white looks good and this is very much the same effect.

She's at the airport back together, mostly. All inspection covers are still off. Waiting for IA to finish up and sign her off. Taxied for the first time today. First time moving under her own power in 35 or so years. Been a fun project, well the fuel tanks in and out wasn't fun at all. But the rest was.
