OSH-18 70th Anniversay Camping?

Postby Toddav8r » Fri Sep 15, 2017 2:57 pm

As a relatively new 170 owner, I really enjoyed last weekend's AOPA fly-in in Norman, OK. It just so happens several 170's arrived in the camping area about the same time. Is there any plan for a mass arrival or group camping for the 70th Anniversary of the C-170 next year at OSH? Sure would be fun!

Todd, great visiting with you guys at Norman. We had three 170s parked together in camping, and Ken Peck's former airplane was down the way with its new owners. Sure would be nice to camp with, say, 30 more 170 owners!

We last had group camping at OSH '11 (I think). What would it take to set it up for the big 70th birthday at OSH 18?

As a (brand) new owner, I would be especially interested in that ...

I have requested 60 spots at 2018 AirVenture. I will post here if and when it gets approved.

I have received confirmation that the 170s are in. Exact number is TBD until the the area is confirmed. I also do not know where the 170s will be parked. More info will be provided as I get it.

I need a volunteer or two to manage the sign up list?
Thx,
Dan

Dave: Thank you!

It is not required to be a 170 member to be in the group parking. Hopefully you will want to join afterwards.

OSH 2018 is July 23-29, 2018 so please plan to arrive by Sunday night July 22 to assure parking. If you will arrive later than that we will try to save the spot but might not be able. The number of parking spots is limited. Based on 2010 and 2014 parking numbers we should be OK.

The info we need is as follows:

N Number
Year and Type (example: 53 170B)
Name
Forum Name
Email
Cell number
City and State
Arrival date (if after July 22)

Email above info to Dave dot Finamore at Gmail dot com so your personal info is not on line

Thanks,
Dan

I'm in! Thank you Dan, and Dave for handling this! It has always been fun in the past when we've been able to get group parking. Hope we get a big response, and have a good showing.

I have received confirmation that the group parking will be in the same area as it was in 2014. It will be in the center between Aircraft Repair and the Ultralights which is a perfect spot for the airshows and getting around. We should have a good showing so send in your info to Dave as soon as you know. 50 to 60 spots should not be a problem and more might be possible.

Bump
I recently wrote a trip report / article for the 170 news; First timers experience and realized that I had not edited runway 27 length to reflect the correct length of 6179 feet. Sorry to all for that error. I'm still a working stiff and luckily I've managed to get my vacation bid to cover Oshkosh 2018. Hope to see a bunch of folks there next year.

As I have been to OshKosh many times, I should know the answer to this question but I don't. In the area where the 170's will be, is camping okay. I other words can I pitch a tent or do we have to camp someplace away from the airplanes or take down the tent during the day?
Thanks
