OSH-2017

Postby rupertjl » Fri Jul 21, 2017 7:11 pm

Anyone at OSH '17 stop in to the Lycoming tent and say "Hi", I'll be the only guy with a Lycoming shirt on that has a big red beard! I'd love to meet some fellow 170 association members.

Jim, are you and Maryann headed to OSH? Katie and I are camping in camp scholler this year. Would love to catch up with you guys some time early in the week. If a slight deviation south is in the plan, stop by C77 poplar Grove airport after the show! We would be glad to show you the area!

Met a bunch of members today and met Jud. Cool guy and guys like him likely the future of the association.
Oshkosh, what a show more for what's here and the people in my opinion than the airshow.
Unfortunately for me I must be from the wrong side of the runway so to speak. Although I got here early, I got sent to camp with my plane in the slums of Oshkosh ( Deep South forty) where there's no runway in sight and I 'm watching corn grow. I'm not alone, there's a few vintage planes here. As Mr Fudd would say "Hey...there's something awfully screwy going on around here." There's Cessna 206's and the like parked in the vintage area, an area that was virtually empty whenI arrived.
So I'm thinking the EAA really doesn't need me as a member anymore, and although EAA may think the same of me I'm not alone there either.
Miles I'm might be gone by the time you arrive, like to tilt a few with you and Karen and admire Dels work.
See ya when I see you.

Karen and I decided this morning to not go this year. The forecast looks like rain tomorrow night. Even if they have the air show, we're not interested in spending the night in a tent in the rain. The prospect of getting parked in the far south 40 just reinforces the decision...

Three plane loads from here (MBT) flew in mid morning today and all 3 parked in Vintage even though one isn't vintage age wise. Go figure.

I think Miles, that might be a good call. Had to fly around KDBQ to avoid an inbound storm. Ran into a massive one in Mitchel SD. Waiting now

That's been a problem for years. Its partially caused by EAA's funny definition of "vintage" and partially by the parking volunteers being volunteers. They park the airplanes that taxi down to them. They're not going to check an A/W cert for manufacture date.

Another problem is the number of people who use camping as parking. They secure their airplane, load their stuff in a car, and aren't seen for a week. Meanwhile, their airplane is occupying a spot and real campers end up in the Deep South (40).

Oh, well, I still go to OSH. Just grin and bear it.

I am here and met a gentlemen that just flew in from Monterrey, Mexico. Cont O-360, 210HP, Titanium gear, 31" Bushwheels, Horton STOL, Baby Bushwheel and a very very fun friendly owner. I would love to spend an evening with him and a bottle of Whiskey.

I invite everyone to come down to the Ultra-Lite Strip Thursday and Friday night at 8PM for the STOL competition. I am narrating the show and we are having a good time! Rumor has it, it is raining beer and they are being shared with the crowd.
