Our fellow Member Bob Edmondson (retired Delta and a debonair kinda guy....) ... pointed out to me that Delta Air Lines actually serves Cody, Wy.
The airfare out of IAH was less expensive than flights from IAH to Billings (which would then require a car rental and several hour drive.)

With Karl also a DL type... That makes at least two Delta types that will be riding standby.... and sweating it out for "Space-A"... if all you guys book Delta. (Maybe they'll pitch in for a drink at the saloon if you don't "bump" them.)

CONVENTION VOLUNTEERS

One of the reasons the 170 Association conventions are so successful is members stepping forward to help during the convention. Usually these volunteers are from the local area around the the City the Convention is held in. However, Cody, WY is a small (extremely friendly) town with only one resident 170 Association family. Thus, as you can tell, our Executive Secretary, Jan Billeb, is already very busy helping us on numerous details that cannot be accomplished over the phone.

During the convention, for example, areas where volunteers can help are: airport greeters, manning registration desk at hotel on arrival day, helping during auction, making table decorations, assisting in the bomb drop and spot landing contest, aircraft judging, etc.

So, we are reaching out to all members that attend the convention to ask if they are willing to help out, for one or two hours, in any of these volunteer areas to drop me an email note. Thanks in advance, Jim and Lolly Wildharber (jim.wildharber@gmail.com).

Jim, Lolly,

I am willing to help once we're there. I haven't figured out our timing yet. Could help with the bomb drop or in the meeting room, or whatever.

So, George is now the official chief beer taster at Holiday Inn Bar! Good luck on getting him to stand for the first round though. LOL

You need more than one data point to get a valid evaluation. I volunteer to be George's assistant... after my van-driving duties are done for the day of course.

Well it is getting closer to Convention time and volunteers keep stepping forward. As of today more than 20 people have agreed to help. So if you haven't helped out at a previous convention, would like to be close to the action, and step in for plus/minus an hour to help, give me a call or drop me a email note.

There are still a few slots for men and women open in the registration, hospitality and auction areas. Many hands make work easier and its fun to get to acquainted with folks you haven't met before. And to our members North and South of the border, we are looking forward to meeting you.

WOW, it appears we'll have a super Convention. May set a record for attendees vs past 5 years.

The three hotels with rooms blocked out for 170 members have sold out in two weeks.

But don't worry, our association secretary, Jan Billeb, has another block of rooms now reserved at Cody Mountain Motel, http://www.cartermountainmotel.com. The phone number is 302-587-4295. Hurry and be sure to say you are with the Cessna 170 group!

For more info on possible convention accommodations go to http://www.cessna170convention.org and click on the "Accomodations" link.

Be sure to let Jan know if you have booking problems, rooms are very tight during tourist season and another big block of rooms may not be possible.
