sun n fun!

Postby Pdogace » Wed Mar 29, 2017 10:00 pm

Headed to sun n fun on the 3rd of April with the family and will attempt to camp for one night for sure (my boys are are 2 and 4) and maybe 2 nights if it goes well. Just seeing if anyone else was headed that way. Would love to see and meet some other 170 members/planes.

We will look for you too. It's our first time going and I was planning on parking in the Vintage Aircraft area. Does anyone know if we are supposed to park in Vintage or normal aircraft parking area??

Anyone get to see/talk about the new Levil ADSB out antenna called Beacon?

Saw a blurb on another website about it and it looks quite interesting. Uses your current transponder if I understood...

Lets see, not quite 3 years till ADS-B out is mandated. Just enough time for the price of that thing to drop to $499. My evil plan is coming along nicely.

And as for the BOM, I'd install that well before many other things I see installed if I had the want for the data it can provide in the cockpit.

I love the ADS-B solution and agree with Bruce on that strategy.

As for the BOM... I think it's a lot prettier than VG's and would love to have one except it has no anti-icing.

Just a random post on ADS-B. Talked to garmin at sun n fun about the gtx 345. It's one box and 2 antennas. It comes with the waas gps antenna which needs to be mounted on top of the plane. He said you can use most older transponder antennas on the bottom of the plane. I kept asking what the average install time was and he said "not much". I pressed what that meant and after a while he said around 20 hours. WOW. 20 shop hours plus the $5000 for the kit ends up being between 6 to 7 grand. That is a big price tag!! You do get ADS B in and out though. Going to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow.
