2016 TIC170A Christmas Party

Postby hilltop170 » Sat Oct 29, 2016 2:29 am

This info went to headquarters too late to be included in the November Flypaper but hopefully everyone will see it here.

2016 TIC170A Christmas Party

The 2016 TIC170A Christmas party will be held again this year in Fredericksburg, Texas on December 2-4, 2016. It's time to start making plans to attend! This is the fifth Christmas party Ina and I have sponsored and the first four were a great time. Everyone in the Association is invited to come and take part in this year's celebration and enjoy the weekend in Fredericksburg! In previous years we have had members attend from Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia, Ohio, Minnesota, and British Columbia! Everyone is welcome.

If you are flying in for the party, free hangar space will be provided on a first come-first served basis for as many as can be put into my hangar. Tiedowns are also free of charge down by the Hangar Hotel or on the north end ramp. If you need to refuel, be sure and use the self service pump on the north end ramp, it's a lot cheaper than by the FBO. The Fredericksburg FBO, 830-997-3313, has rental cars that can be reserved in advance and there are taxis to the hotel. Enterprise also will drop cars at the airport but I'm sure there will be plenty of empty seats available in member's cars for those who fly in.

Friday Night Lighted Christmas Parade-
The fun starts Friday evening where we will meet in front of the Fredericksburg Brewery on Main St. at 6:00pm and watch the Fredericksburg Lighted Christmas parade which starts at 6:30pm and runs for about an hour. Every float entrant displays Christmas lights and the parade continues to grow every year. Last year it lasted over an hour! Be sure to dress for the weather as the parade happens no matter what it is. It's a great event to kick off the Christmas season.

Friday night dinner-
After the parade we will walk across the street where we have reservations for 25 people at 7:30pm for dinner downstairs at the Rathskeller. Rathskeller is one of Ina's and my favorite restaurants in Fredericksburg. The menu is varied with American and German dishes and is reasonably priced.

Daytime Saturday-
Saturday is open for whatever activity suits you. There are many interesting things to do in Fredericksburg from shopping, just walking up and down Main Street, wine tours, to the world-class Museum of the Pacific War.

Saturday night Christmas party-
The Christmas Party starts at 6:00pm on Saturday evening Dec 3. The dinner will again be Pot Luck with Ina and I furnishing Bar-B-Q brisket, sausage, pork tamales, pinto beans, and potato salad, as well as coffee, mixers, and assorted adult beverages. Please bring a dish of some sort whether it is an hors d'oeuver, salad, vegetable, or desert. We are usually light on cooked vegetable dishes but bring whatever you like and we'll make it work. If you prefer to bring your own drinks, feel free, plus we'll have an ice chest to keep things cool. Last minute items can be picked up at the local HEB grocery store which has a great selection of prepared foods.

After dinner, we'll again have a Chinese Christmas gift exchange. These have been a lot of fun in the past. Everyone who wants to participate brings a gift of around $20 value. Men bring a man's gift and women bring a woman's gift and they will all go under the tree together. Everyone will draw a number that determines when you get to go to the tree and select a gift. When it is your turn, you may either take someone else's gift or go to the tree and select a gift. If you take someone else's gift, they can take someone else's gift, or go back to the tree and pick another gift. A gift can only change hands twice and is "dead" when the third person picks it. After everyone has a gift, the very first person has the last chance to take anyone's gift whether "dead" or not or keep the one they have. It sounds more complicated than it is but everyone will make sure you don't make a mistake. There will most likely be some very lively discussions and there will definitely be lots of laughs.

Lodging-
Ken Peck has graciously volunteered to handle the hotel arrangements this year. This information has already been emailed to everyone by Ken but I'm also including it here so all the info is in one place.

Everyone is welcome to stay wherever they want but to try to assure that everyone has a room, we have arranged a contract for a block of rooms at The Best Western Plus hotel at 314 East Highway St., in Fredericksburg.

https://www.bestwestern.com/content/bes ... Code=44516

Naomi and I did the best research we could and have chosen this hotel, hoping it will be comfortable and affordable. It is located about 3/4 of a mile from downtown main street. The hotels we contacted within walking distance of the heart of town did not have enough rooms remaining available for our group.

The rooms are blocked for two nights. Arrival Date: Friday, December 2nd. Departure Date: Sunda,y December 4th.

There are 12 rooms with a single king bed at the rate of $149.99 per night, plus tax.

There are 4 rooms with two queen beds at the rate of $159.99 per night, plus tax.

More than double occupancy will be charged $15.00 per person per night per room.

The cutoff policy for making reservations for the booked rooms at the above rates is: The room must be reserved with a credit card on or prior to November 2nd, 2016.

Cancellation Policy: The cancellation date is at least 24 hours prior to the arrival date. If cancelled after 24 hours prior the guest will be charged for one night at the reserved rate.

Check in: Not Earlier Than 3:00 P.M.
Check out: 1200 noon.

The phone number for reservations is: 830-992-2929
I would recommend making reservations immediately due to the short time until November 2nd.
In making your reservation please let them know you are with "The International Cessna 170 Group" , and make sure they give you the rate listed above.

If you have any problem making your reservation, ( we hope you do not ) please ask to speak with Lora Burgar. She is the group sales rep. we worked with, and she should be available at the res. phone number listed above.

If you have other lodging questions please contact Ken Peck at 512-468-7790 or c170ken@earthlink.net

Things are shaping up for another excellent weekend in Fredericksburg! Ina and I hope to fill the house again this year so make some plans and come join in the fun in Fredericksburg Dec 2-4. Come a few days early or stay over and get your Christmas shopping done early, there are many unique shops and stores but in any case be sure and be at the party!

I'd just like to comment on last years event. Mary Anne and I decided to attend at the last minute, last year and really enjoyed ourselves. For us it was a real treat to see friends from Texas, to see the local area and to enjoy the company of the the 170 clan. We enjoyed immensely, the generous hospitality of the hosts, Ina and Richard.
I'm a bit slow and still haven't figured out the Chinese gift giving thing, other than having your name drawn first is possibly the best ?
Unfortunately the stars did not align for us this year and time off from work is not available. I'm envious of those that can make it and hopefully there will be better planning on our part next year. Hope to see lots of Christmas gift swapping action shots on the forum. :D

Thanks for the kind words Jim, Ina and I both enjoy putting on these parties and we were definitely surprised to see y'all there last year. I remember saying to Ina while at dinner at the Rathskeller, doesn't that guy look like Jim McIntosh? It was a pleasant surprise. Sorry you won't be able to make it this year and that I forgot to include British Columbia in the list of attendees.

Well, the weather was slightly less than ideal with rain and low ceilings, so only two 170s made it in for this year's Christmas Lights Parade, and Christmas party. Richard and Ina once again hosted a wonderful evening, and made everyone feel most welcome. I know I speak for the other 30 of us in attendance - THANK YOU both for a wonderful evening. Those who were unable to attend due to illness, or other commitments - we missed you, and hope to see you next year! Here's the annotated picture of the group.

I came very close to attending but did cancel my hotel at the last minute because of the weather. Maybe next year. Glad to see so many made it despite the poor weather.

I as well was planning my first Texas Christmas Party this year. Even talked the wife into the 5 hour one way flight but because of the weather forecast cancelled the hotel on the 1st. The drive just added more to the trip than we could make work. The grandparents might not could have handled that one extra day with our kids. :D

As Christmas draws nearer, I was reflecting upon the sweet and fun time at Richard and Ina's party and wanted to say, "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year" to all the 170 Assoc'n Family out there.

Also, a Huge Thank You to Richard and Ina for making us all feel so Welcome and Warm in their home!
