WOW, the excitement builds. 121 people have registered so far, including two from Alaska, seven from Canada and three from Australia. In addition, for six individuals this will be their first convention. If you have not found a hotel room yet, check with me, Lolly or Jan? A hotel room at the Holiday Inn and/or Comfort Inn might open up.

I am really excited to attend this convention. Have missed the last few but I don't believe you could have picked a better place. I plan to take a side trip up the Chief Joseph Byway and over the Beartooth Highway North of Cody. For those who have never been on these routes they are two of the most beautiful roads in America. More good news!

First: Cleveland Wheel and Brake Co has donated a set of Cessna 170 wheels and brakes. Bidding during the auction should be really interesting.

Second: A widow in Cody will open her husbands garage storage of Cessna 170 and 170A parts, for Cessna 170 members at the convention. When you check in at registration, check for the time these items can be viewed to make an offer. These are used parts she "wants gone". Examples are gas tanks, tail feathers, landing gear, wings, etc. from a project never finished. The fuselage and engine has already been sold. Remaining parts Sold "As Is Where Is - shipped at buyers expense". The widow would prefer cash offers and may take a check.

Third: A former 170 Association member has donated his 170B spare parts to the association. They are located in St. Louis, MO and sold "As Is Where Is - shipped at owners expense". Look for pictures and bid sheets during the auction.

For folks that may still be looking for a late minute hotel room in Cody, two have opened up. David Bengtson (TX) and Joe Scoles (ON, Canada) are now not able to attend. If you call them in the next 5 days, they are willing to transfer their reservation to another association member. You can find their phone number in the membership directory.

Another vendor donation showed up in Cody. It's a Stratus 2S ADS-B receiver for iPad with power supply kit. The brochure describes it as a simple to use, pocket sized, wireless receiver that transforms your iPad into the ultimate flight tool. Humm, 3 big ticket items are up for grabs: door stewards, Cleveland wheel and brake kit and Stratus 2S receiver.

This likely has been already covered but I must have missed it: Been to Cody airport once, seemed there was a good amount of ramp space and asphalt (from dim memory). What will be the parking arrangements, please.

Jim, thanks for the reminder!

The general aviation ramp has 36 designated tie down spots. Most DO NOT have tie down ropes. So, all 170 members flying are urged to bring your own tie down ropes and wheel chock. Overflow parking will be on grass adjacent to the ramp. So, bring your tie down stakes! When you arrive Choice Aviation ground crew, or 170 member volunteers, will direct you to parking.

Choice Aviation is also giving 170 members a discount on avgas. Don't forget to ask for it when you refuel your plane.

A few words of caution:
I landed at Cody one time and the wind was blowing 30G40 so make sure your tie downs are secure enough to hold your plane in that kind of wind. It doesn't always blow that hard there but obviously can and does. Dog leash screw-in tie downs should not be used.

On Airport Day, Wednesday, June 27, did I mention there are two maintenance events planned!

The first one starts at 11:00 AM and will focus on aging aircraft issues. Bring your questions.

The second starts at 1:00 PM. It will cover ADS-B in/out rules, regulations, and installation deadlines. Our speaker is Geremy Kornreich with Appareo Systems. The overview will last for roughly 30 minutes followed by Q and A period.

At 2:00 PM, I am hoping to have a members c-170 on display with equipment setup for ADS-B. The focus will not be on on particular manufacturers equipment, but give our collective members the chance to discuss equipment options and installation issues. This should be an informative time for all.

Jim and Lolly have arrived in Cody today. Airport is close to hotel and weather is nice with cool evenings so bring a light jacket. While checking out a HERTZ car there were light rain showers and gusty winds, so make sure you bring your tie down ropes and stakes if ramp is full. Tomorrow we will be working with Jan on finishing up details for the convention. See you soon.

We are loving Cody! The folks here are looking forward too the arrival of The Cessna 170 Asso. Visited Choice Aviation FBO today and discussed parking, fuel discount discount, and meeting rooms. Parking on ramp is first come first serve with overflow on adjacent grass areas. So, bring ropes, tie down stakes, and chocks (think Sun & Fun parking). Fuel discount is 10 cents/gallon on truck service or 40 cents/gallon off self service. Area rep., convention host, and Board meeting rooms are very very nice.(think first class). In fact, the entire facility is on the plush side. I can’t remember a nicer FBO facility for past convention sites.

Weather for Sunday is forecast to be scattered clouds and sunny, temp 69 deg. F high and 52 low. Monday is forecast clear and sunny with a high of 81 and low of 58.
