Compass Cover Assembly

Postby rupertjl » Wed Feb 05, 2020 2:15 pm

Probably a long shot but thought I'd ask. Does anyone have a Compass Cover Assy, Figure 60 items 32 and 36 in the 170A IPC, part numbers 0511010-8 and 0511010-12? I'm also calling Cessna to ask if they have prints that I can duplicate a part from but wanted to make sure no one had one laying around taking up space that they wanted to get rid of.

Thanks!

Spruce sells them ,but you haven’t indicated which model compass. Look after your compass compensator , I am trying to buy one for the 2300 series compass and spruce now tells me they do not stock them any more . So electronic system may be the way to go . The IPC doesn’t always show the model or type correctly regarding compasses. I have looked at another compass and fitting in a Cessna 170A and it’s totally different but mounting plate and cover has the correct numbers stamped on them .

Judson,

Check with Robert Brown on Facebook. He’s the one with the cache of NOS 170 parts and has posted on the 170 group page there. He used to have one, no clue if he still does.

I trolled eBay for quite a while to find one from Ken Morris that he elected not to use in one of his 140A restoration projects. I paid $200 or so for mine, and I would expect Robert to be the same ballpark. Not exactly cheap, but would be much more laborious to replicate. I drew one up a while back with the intent of creating a mould to make it out of carbon, but never got as far as drawing up the mounting hardware. I have zero clue where the file is and don’t remember how complete it was as it was a gap filler project when I was bored.

The IPC Figure 60 in the PC107-12 document has the cover i need, I've never seen them for sale anywhere else. I got the drawings from Cessna to reproduce so I'll probably just go that route.
