Looking to buy another Cessna 170B

Postby Hattrick » Fri Aug 09, 2019 8:56 pm

Hello everyone!

I sold my first '52 Cessna 170B about 9 years ago (I know... I know... huge mistake!).

Now I'm back in the position to purchase another a 170 and was hoping I might be able to reach out to our small community here and see if any of you are, or will be, in the market to sell your 170 or maybe know someone else that is, or will be, selling.

I'm looking for a nice B model (inside and out) and if anyone has or knows of one with Lyc180hp I'd be very interested.

Thanks for any help or leads you can provide!

Here’s one, it’s off the radar but I think you’ll have to explain to the owner it’s a 170 not a 180. Does have floats and other gear, just the same the finish looks, well, based on the price, not what I would expect.

$140,000 CDN = $105,000 USD which is better but the guy is probably trying to recover what he has in it instead of what it is worth.

Really nice !(No serious work needed) 170B's will cost $60k. Show planes will cost more.
It'd take $60K or more to buy mine (it's not for sale) and that's with Mid time engine and very basic avionics. Good luck finding your dream for less than that.

For those who might be shopping there are two 170's on the Alaskaslist classified site currently. Looks like one has the O-360 engine. I don't have any personal knowledge of either of these, just passing this along.

Thanks beaverbill,

I contacted the seller and he has a prebuy scheduled for Wednesday. Great price and good find... I wish I had known about the website earlier than today. I'll have to add the Alaska List to my bookmarks!

Well fellas,

After 5 months of shopping around and two plus months of speaking with and getting to know fellow member Doug Martin from Vancouver B.C. I finally purchased my dream Cessna 170B which Doug owned and loved for just over 20 years. I returned home today after a beautiful 3 day flight from Langley B.C. to her new home in Louisville, KY. I know it has been a bittersweet experience for Doug as it marks the end of his time owning and flying his beloved plane. That said, Doug, I can only promise to respect and care for her as much as you did these past 20 years. My family is excited about owning such a pretty 170 and my 5 year old daughter can't wait for her daddy to recover from the journey home so I can take her flying.

I will write a more thorough log and share more photos in a future post in a more appropriate section of the forums. I owe thank yous to several people on here and I will make sure to do so in that post.

Congratulations! It's wonderful seeing the legacy of these 170s as the pass from steward to steward. Looking forward to a full trip report!

Pretty airplane Mark, your photos pushed me to go out and fly mine today.

Do you have a VOR/LOC ? I cannot see a VOR antenna.

Funny, Doug had mentioned I do the same thing when I had time after all was said and done. I'd like to document the process and journey at the very least for myself. Perhaps when I'm done putting it down on paper it might be published in the 170 News. Stay tuned!
